Ford 7810: Basildon's Six-Cylinder Star (and That Silver Jubilee)
Oct 21, 2026
The Ford Series 10 tractors are close to sacred on Irish and British farms, and the 7810 is the one many people rate highest. It's one of our most popular designs, especially the silver Jubilee version.
Built in Basildon
The 7810 was built at Ford's tractor plant in Basildon, Essex, during the 1980s as part of the Series 10 range. It had a six-cylinder Ford diesel making around 100 horsepower, which gave it more smooth, steady pulling power than the four-cylinder models below it. It came in two- and four-wheel drive, and the Super Q cab made it a comfortable place to spend a long day.
The Silver Jubilee
In 1989 Ford marked 25 years of tractor building at Basildon with a limited Silver Jubilee edition, finished in silver instead of the usual blue. The 7810 Jubilee is now one of the most collectable Fords there is. A genuine one draws a crowd at any vintage show and serious money at auction.
Why it's so well loved
- Six cylinders, smooth power. It's strong and steady with a plough, and easy to drive on the road.
- Simple and tough. It's mechanical through and through, so it's easy to fix and hard to kill.
- The Ford sound. Anyone who has driven one knows the noise.
- Memories. For a lot of families the 7810 was the big tractor of the 1980s and 90s, the one that did the silage and the ploughing.
